In the morning we traveled from Pueblo to Oaxaca where we settled into the hostel, Casa Paulina near the center of Oaxaca. There we had some free time to go the the Oaxaca Zocolo. During our visit striking teachers and their supporters were camped out in the Zocolo with awnings stretched out to protect them from the sun. (Coming soon: More about the teacher strike.)

Oaxaca is a center for artesans, and several of us visited the Mujeres Artesana de las Regiones de Oaxaca A.C. (the M.A.R.O.) which is a huge store filled with clothing, jewelry, rugs, art items and other souveniers created by female artesans of the area.

After our return from the market, we gathered together to process what we had heard the previous day in Pueblo. As part of the process, each of us wrote a story, poem, etc. based upon what we had heard, as if we were living under the conditions we had been hearing about. (Read the stories).

In the evening we met with organizers from EDUCA for a briefing on Oaxacan history, immigration and recent happenings in the state. (Coming soon: What we found out from the EDUCA organizers).
